Health information resources

Center for Science in the Public Interest

CSPI is one of my favorite "watch dog" organizations! You can trust them and their research.
http://www.cspinet.org/
They also have a great newsletter: Nutrition Action. It is insightful, informative, informative and inexpensive. It is totally worth the small subscription fee. They mail a monthly newsletter and you can access the information online at:
http://www.cspinet.org/nah/index.htm

Living Green is easy with help from these friends

Live Green is strong in DC and branching out. This great group promotes and networks health oriented & earth friendly businesses. I enjoy their e-newsletters very much! http://www.livegreen.net/

Food Safety

Healthful eating includes safe food handling. The VDACS can keep you updated on current Virginia food safety information. http://www.vdacs.virginia.gov/foodsafety/index.shtml or http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/hd/food/
If you want to check out the food regulations in other locations, NRFSP has a portal to each state site: http://www.nrfsp.com/administrator/ or Food Safety News has a great site: http://www.foodsafetynews.com/

Healthful places to go

Local Farmers Markets

Fresh produce, locally raised products, freshly baked treats, hand milled soap, artists, crafts people, musicians - an interesting, aromatic and supportive shopping environment.  My son wanders the market and chats with the farmers. The produce he personally selects is far more likely to get eaten (without a fight) than produce I buy for him at the grocery store.

Search for your local farmers market here:
http://farmersmarket.com/
The Falls Church City market is open year round. This is a favorite Saturday destination for my family!

If you are a neighbor of mine, here are some local markets for you!

Healthful purchases

My favorite massage therapist in Northern Virginia

When I am stressed or strained, I go straight to Jacquie Gomez. She is my favorite therapist! In fact, I have an appointment with her coming up and I can't wait. Jacquie can do a variety of massages, from light and relaxing to deep tissue and therapeutic. Check her out at http://massagetherapist4you.com/

A great protein powder!

While working with kids & senior citizens, I made a lot of protein shakes. I fond great results with the Isagenix whey based protein powder. Refer to my 9/20/2010 blog feature on protein powders for more information on the subject. Isagenix is nor sold in stores, but you can mail order it. Check them out at www.isagenix.com Ursy Potter is a rep for the company and would be glad to help you. Contact her at Riverlover@aol.com

My carpet cleaning guy

Picture
Alphonso is great! He is nice, communicative and does a wicked good job with carpet cleaning. If you need his services, like I did after Zander spilled a chocolate milkshake on my antique Chinese carpet then Maddy the Cat felt competitive with the situation and marked the spot... Alphonso came to the rescue. Check him out at alphonsocarpetcleaning.com
